If you are building a house and choosing the stone, it is natural that you will have a series of doubts. Natural or artificial stone. What are the differences between them?

·       Natural Stone – Natural stone is formed by nature over thousands of years, and in this process its appearance continues to flow with time and nature. The stone is mined from the earth in different places. Its location determines the type, color and texture. Natural stone is identified by its variable uniqueness rich in color, texture, veins, and natural imperfections that set it apart, no two stone slabs are alike, each slab has a unique appearance.

·       Artificial Stone – Artificial stone is a man-made product. The quest for more consistency and uniformity in the appearance of the finished product was the driving factor behind this invention. Typically, an artificial stone is made up of concrete and aggregate materials that are pressed and shaped into the final product. In addition, the product is artificially colored and polished, capable of offering a wide range of colors and styles, to resemble the appearance of natural stones. With the advancement of technology, artificial stone claims to offer a more realistic and aesthetic look, but looking in detail you will find repetitions in color and style.

If you look at the natural and artificial stones from a distance, you will see that it is difficult to distinguish them, however, if you look closer, you will notice the difference in the authenticity of the natural one, as a man-made product cannot compete with nature.

Another factor that helps to decide is the durability and maintenance of natural stone. Think of the ancient civilizations that favored natural stone to build iconic monuments that still stand, even after centuries. Most natural stones are less porous in nature, which increases their durability. Also, maintaining natural stone can be easily done with a pressure wash. Whereas, maintenance of artificial stone is labor intensive, and it no longer withstands pressure washing or manual cleaning. Also, natural stone is more durable when applied outdoors, such as cladding. It can withstand all seasons and natural elements, including rain, sunlight, wind and dust.
